A gambler guilty of defrauding friends and acquaintances of $7 million was sentenced Wednesday to four years in prison, less than the decade term requested by federal prosecutors.
San Francisco federal Judge Charles R. Breyer said at sentencing that the criminal case against Douglas Jae Woo Kim, who used his friends’ money to gamble and bet on sports, was quite simple: “It’s really about obtaining money under false pretenses, no more, no less.”
