Allstate Insurance Co. and a former in-house litigator have settled his workplace bias lawsuit, which claimed the company could have accommodated his disability by excusing him from jury trials.
Ronald Egers was fired by the insurance company in April 2016, not long after returning from a two-and-a-half-year medical leave for a heart condition. Egers sought a disability accommodation on trial work that Allstate rejected, arguing that doing trial work was an essential function of Egers position. Egers later sued under New York’s Human Rights Law, which prohibits workplace discrimination against protected classes.
