Eversource Energy Sued Over ‘Junk’ Reconnection Fee (1)

Eversource Energy deceptively charges consumers “junk fees” when they restore their electric service after being disconnected for failing to pay, according to a proposed class action.

The company’s $102 reconnect charges far exceed the cost of turning electric service back on, and are “nothing more than an expensive excuse to collect money from struggling consumers who can afford it the least,” the lawsuit claims.

The “unconscionable” charges have become “in essence a tax for being poor,” according to the complaint filed Monday in Massachusetts Superior Court, Suffolk County.
