Event Media, Pack Expo Keep Victory in Pension Funds Dispute

The Central States, Southeast and Southwest Areas Pension Fund failed to show it should receive higher payments from Event Media Inc. and Pack Expo Services LLC following their withdrawal from the fund, the US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit said.

An Illinois federal district court correctly interpreted the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 when it concluded that the companies’ withdrawal liability obligations shouldn’t include post-2014 contribution rate increases, Judge Thomas L. Kirsch II said Thursday in a “question of first impression for the courts of appeals.”
