Epic Systems Targeted by Texas in Health Records Monopoly Suit

Epic Systems Corporation has an unlawful monopoly in the electronic health records industry, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) alleges in a new lawsuit.

Housing records of 90% of US citizens, Epic through its database has boxed out competitors by imposing large penalty fees on hospitals who attempt to use another company and restricting access to records by rivals, the lawsuit says.

The anticompetitive practices are then driving up costs to hospitals and patients, Paxton alleges in the petition.
