Engineer With ‘Havana Syndrome’ Sues State Department For Bias

A State Department engineer says he was discriminated against and denied job opportunities because he developed a mysterious illness known as Havana Syndrome while stationed in China, according to lawsuit filed in a federal court in Virginia.

Mark Lenzi was diagnosed with a brain injury in 2018 after he and his family experienced “sudden and unexplained physical and psychological symptoms, including headaches, sleeplessness, lightheadedness, nosebleeds, and memory loss,” during his assignment in Guangzhou, the complaint says. His injury and symptoms were characteristic of Havana Syndrome, it says.
