Employee’s Town Hall Injury Occurred on the Job, Was Compensable

A local government employee injured after retrieving his work phone from a town hall and before conducting his first official act of the day can receive workers’ compensation benefits, an Illinois appellate court said Friday.

The ruling highlighted the issue of when an employee is considered on the job while traveling.

The Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission ruled Cicero, Ill. employee Michael Iniquez was eligible for workers’ compensation benefits because injuries he sustained when he slipped on Cicero Town Hall stairs occurred during the course of his employment.
