A civil rights law firm wants to block Massachusetts from imposing a cap on the number of families provided emergency housing under the state’s right-to-shelter law.
Massachusetts’ law guarantees emergency housing assistance to eligible families with children and pregnant people. The state announced that it would begin capping the number of families it could accommodate in its shelter system starting Nov. 1, according to a lawsuit filed Friday by Lawyers for Civil Rights in Suffolk Superior Court.
