Elevance Hit With Discrimination Suit Over Covering Obesity Meds

Elevance Health, Inc. violated an anti-discrimination provision of the Affordable Care Act by designing health insurance plans that exclude coverage of weight loss drugs like Ozempic to treat obesity, a new proposed class action says.

Elevance, formerly known as Anthem, Inc., has an exclusion in some of its health insurance plans that denies coverage of “‘any drug mainly used for weight loss,’” such as Ozempic and Wegovy.
