Eggland’s Best Inc. misleadingly labels some eggs “cage free” despite the eggs coming from hens that live in typical factory farming arrangements with cramped and artificial conditions, a proposed consumer class action alleged.
The egg cartons state that each “hen selected to lay Eggland’s Best Cage Free eggs is free to roam in a pleasant, natural environment,” but “every part of that claim is false or misleading,” according to the complaint filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
Eggland’s Best didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
