Education Department, Unions End Suit Over Diversity Guidance

The Trump administration and teachers’ unions that sued over the Education Department’s interpretation of nondiscrimination law have reached a settlement on attorneys’ fees, after a federal court ruled against the government.

The parties filed a stipulation of dismissal with prejudice June 12, notifying the US District Court for the District of Maryland of the settlement on the unions’ attorneys’ fees claims. The Education Department last year issued a “Dear Colleague Letter” suggesting a variety of school initiatives and programs violate antidiscrimination law, and imposed a certification requirement for schools to confirm compliance with the agency’s new interpretation of Title VI ...
