Education Department Sued Over Sudden School Grant Cancellations

A Chicago nonprofit and teachers union sued Education Secretary Linda McMahon Monday for canceling 19 school grants mid-project and failing to spend $60 million in congressionally mandated funding that expires at the end of the year.

Brighton Park Neighborhood Council and the American Federation of Teachers allege McMahon and the US Department of Education violated the Administrative Procedure Act by discontinuing Full-Service Community Schools grants without proper justification and by refusing to obligate the remaining funds before they expire.
