Ed Blum’s Anti-DEI Group Can Pursue Suit Over ABA Scholarship

The American Bar Association must continue defending its diversity scholarship against allegations from the American Alliance for Equal Rights, a district court ruled Wednesday, declining to dismiss the entire lawsuit.

The anti-DEI legal group, led by affirmative action foe Edward Blum, pleads a plausible claim under federal law guaranteeing equal rights, Judge Joan B. Gottschall said, partially denying the ABA’s motion to dismiss. The US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois did partially grant the motion and dismissed AAER’s allegations as to one of its members who failed to establish representational standing.
