Eckert Seamans Sued Over Wheeling University Alumni Data Breach

Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott LLC is facing a proposed class action alleging the Pittsburgh-based law firm negligently failed to protect the personal information of approximately 9,400 Wheeling University alumni that was exposed in an April data breach.

Lead plaintiff Lara Williams alleged that the firm breached its duties under common law, contract law, industry standards, and the Federal Trade Commission Act to implement reasonable and adequate data-security measures and provide timely notice of the incident.
