DoorDash’s $100 Million Deal Limits California Gig Drivers Case

An earlier settlement DoorDash Inc. reached with delivery drivers will limit efforts to seek restitution in a lawsuit brought by San Francisco on behalf of the people of California, a judge ruled.

The San Francisco district attorney filed the lawsuit in 2020, saying the gig employer is violating California unfair business practices law by misclassifying workers as independent contractors. DoorDash moved for summary adjudication on the ground that the restitution claim is barred due to a $100 million settlement of wage and hour claims that was finalized in January.
