A coalition of states sued the Justice Department Wednesday to regain full access to millions of dollars in victim services and criminal justice grant that were restricted due to their potential to fund help for undocumented immigrants.
An email and update to DOJ’s Grants Financial Guide in August and September are unlawfully unclear about which legal services under Victims of Crime Act and Violence Against Women Act grants are to be restricted, and how states and agencies can determine who should be shut out, the complaint filed in the US District Court for the District of Rhode Island said.
