DOJ Open to Settlement Talks in Chicago National Guard Lawsuit

The Trump administration is open to settling a lawsuit challenging National Guard deployment to the Chicago area, a Department of Justice attorney said in court Wednesday.

Attorneys were back in Judge April Perry’s courtroom for the first time since the US Supreme Court rejected the administration’s request to let National Guard troops take the streets. Perry’s October order blocking the deployment sparked the administration’s largely unsuccessful appellate effort.

DOJ attorney Christopher Edelman didn’t disclose what the administration might agree to, but said he was “optimistic” they could come to a settlement with Illinois and Chicago. Christopher Wells of the Illinois ...
