Federal prosecutors on Thursday moved to dismiss charges against two out of the six people accused of conspiring to block a federal vehicle during a demonstration outside an Immigration and Customs Enforcement building in the Chicago suburbs.
Dropping the cases against Catherine Sharp and Joselyn Walsh is “in the interests of justice,” Assistant US Attorney William Hogan wrote in the motion.
Prosecutors asked to dismiss the charges with prejudice, indicating they would not attempt to re-file.
Brad Thomson of People’s Law Office, an attorney for Walsh, called the decision a “victory for free speech and the right to dissent.”
