The Justice Department and city of Cleveland on Thursday both asked a federal judge to end a consent decree to reform its police force, before a court-appointed monitor said the city completed everything required of it.
The Cleveland Division of Police has “achieved substantial compliance and a durable remedy to address the conduct alleged in the Complaint,” more than 10 years after the agreement was approved by a federal judge, according to a motion filed in US District Court for the Northern District of Ohio.
