DOJ Ends Disparate Impact Suit Over NYC Firefighter Hiring (2)

The Justice Department agreed to drop its long-running lawsuit against New York City over the adverse effects the city’s hiring practices for firefighter jobs has on minority candidates.

The move Wednesday came two weeks after President Donald Trump signed an executive order requiring the DOJ and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to eliminate the use of the disparate impact theory in the enforcement of civil rights laws to the “maximum degree possible.”
