DOJ Approved to Join Suit Over California Congressional Maps

A Los Angeles judge allowed the US Justice Department to join a lawsuit challenging California’s voter-approved congressional maps.

Judge Josephine L. Staton’s order in the US District Court for the Central District of California Friday heats up California Republicans’ legal challenge to the Gov. Gavin Newsom (D)-backed move to offset Texas’ redistricting and potentially add five new Democratic House seats during the 2026 midterm elections.
