A public employees union is suing to stop Elon Musk’s US government efficiency initiative from accessing sensitive personal information held by the Social Security Administration.
The Musk-led effort, called the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, is tasked with hunting for fraud and wasteful spending across federal agencies, including the SSA. As the nation’s largest benefit-paying agency, it oversees distribution of retirement income to millions of Americans and supports other government programs like Medicare and Medicaid.
