Dickey’s Barbecue to Pay $2.3 Million to Settle Data Breach Suit

Dickey’s Barbecue Restaurants Inc. will pay $2.35 million to settle a proposed class action arising from a data breach that allegedly lasted more than a year and exposed the personal financial information of about three million people.

Demi Kostka, Latorsha Adams and the other plaintiffs claimed that Dickey’s inadequate data security measures and “cavalier” approach to data security led to the breach and the injuries suffered by class members. Data exposed in the breach included credit- and debit-card numbers, expiration dates, cardholder names, internal card-verification codes, and other payment-card information, the lawsuit said.
