Dentist Accused of Fraud in Custody After Threat to Prosecutor

A Pennsylvania dentist facing decades in prison on federal fraud charges must be detained pending trial after threatening to shoot one of the prosecutors handling his case.

Prosecutors in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania filed an emergency motion to revoke Niranjan Savani’s bail Monday. Judge Jeffrey L. Schmehl granted the request, following a hearing Wednesday.

Savani and several co-conspirators are accused of, among other things, racketeering conspiracy, visa fraud, conspiracy to commit health-care fraud, conspiracy to defraud the US Treasury, and conspiracy to distribute adulterated and misbranded dental implants.
