Democratic Organizers $3.5 Million Settlement Gets Final Nod

A $3.5 million settlement between campaign workers and the Pennsylvania Democratic Party over its alleged failure to pay proper overtime wages during the 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2020 elections received final approval Tuesday from Judge Gene E.K. Pratter.

Bethany Katz’s proposed class action sought damages under the Fair Labor Standards Act and Pennsylvania Minimum Wage Act, alleging the state Democratic Party “avoided paying organizers overtime wages by classifying them as exempt from overtime requirements.” The class consists of over 800 field organizers who worked for the party between Nov. 9, 2013, and Dec. 31, 2021.
