Defense Department Sued for $10 Million in TNT Cleanup Costs

The US Department of Defense must repay the owner of a former explosives manufacturing facility $10 million for its environmental investigation, remediation, and continued monitoring costs, according to a new lawsuit filed on Tuesday.

Expert Management Inc. of Carthage, Missouri, says the US is liable under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act and the Declaratory Judgment Act to repay the expenses because it is responsible for the contamination.
