Davis Polk Gets Win in Black Former Associate’s Race Bias Case

A Black attorney lacks proof that Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP discriminated against him based on race when he worked for the firm, but presented sufficient evidence to proceed with claims that it retaliated against him for his bias complaints, a Manhattan federal judge ruled Thursday.

Kaloma Cardwell came forward with evidence that could support a reasonable jury siding with him on his remaining claims against then-managing partner Thomas Reid, partner Daniel Brass, and senior counsel John Bick in Davis Polk’s corporate/mergers and acquisitions group, the US District Court for the Southern District of New York said.
