An attorney who overcharged two clients and broke other rules agreed to take a 180-day suspension by the District of Columbia Court of Appeals Board on Professional Responsibility.
Paul Haar consented to the 180-day suspension, with 90 days stayed, in connection with his representations of Manuel Garza and Mariia Chuta. Garza is a Guatemalan national while Chuta is a Ukrainian national, according to court documents.
Garza retained Haar in 2014 to represent him in an immigration matter. Haar was accused of charging Garza more than $12,000 despite knowing there wasn’t a successful case to be made.
