The US Department of Education exceeded its authority when it issued guidance documents stating that gender discrimination in educational institutions includes discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, a federal trial court ruled.
Judge Reed O’Connor of the US District Court for the Northern District of Texas ruled that the documents are unlawful and enjoined the government from implementing or enforcing the guidance documents against Texas and its respective educational institutions.
