Floridians waiting for the last minute to register for the November election who were derailed by two hurricanes won’t get an extended window to sign up, a federal court ruled.
Voting rights groups filed an emergency petition asking for an extension—something governors have granted in prior cycles but that Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) denied this month—due to evacuations and registration drive cancellations caused by Hurricanes Helene and Milton.
Those pleas were rejected after a hearing in the US District Court for the Northern District of Florida on Wednesday.
