An insurance company told the Illinois Supreme Court on Thursday that a $7 million payout request should be denied because stacking of liability limits isn’t allowed under state law.
Lawyers for a high school basketball team and its coach involved in a fatal accident argued the language of the policy, issued by Owners Insurance Co., was ambiguous and thus allows for the insured to stack, or aggregate, the liability limit contained in a single policy.
