County Sheriffs in Maryland Sue Over State’s Sanctuary Status

Seventeen Maryland county sheriffs represented by the Federation for American Immigration Reform are suing the state, its governor, and its attorney general over the state’s sanctuary jurisdiction status.

The lawsuit alleges the state’s sanctuary law, known as the Community Trust Act, violates the US Constitution’s supremacy clause. Three claims allege preemption theories, and a fourth alleges the state is improperly trying to regulate the federal government.
