Corning Accused of Systemic Sex Bias in Male Promotions by EEOC

Corning Inc. grooms male employee for promotion to line lead positions at two facilities in western New York, resulting in women being excluded as a class from the more lucrative jobs in the company’s glass-making process, the EEOC alleges in a lawsuit filed Thursday.

Barbara A. Wunderlich, a machine operator, filed the discrimination charge that brought the systemic sex bias to the agency’s attention. She lost out on at least two line lead positions for which she was qualified because of the bias, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said.
