Convicted Uber Security Chief Denied Early Probation Release

Former chief security officer of Uber Technologies Inc. Joseph Sullivan, who was convicted of covering up a company data breach, was denied early termination of his three-year probation sentence.

“Given the importance of general deterrence in this case and the already lenient sentence imposed,” Judge William H. Orrick on Thursday said he wouldn’t end Sullivan’s probation.

Orrick isn’t inclined to grant any renewed motion to terminate Sullivan’s probation, which is set to expire in May 2026, the judge said.
