Confederacy Group Seeks $1.8 Million, Cemetery Statue Return (1)

The United Daughters of the Confederacy Inc. is suing the Defense Department, US Army, and several officials, seeking more than $1.8 million in damages and the retrieval of a Civil War memorial that once stood in Arlington National Cemetery.

UDC alleges the Defense Department—now referred to by the Trump administration as the Department of War— and other officials breached its contract after the group raised funds for, and saw through the design, erection, and dedication of the memorial in the cemetery, according to its complaint filed Wednesday in the US Court of Federal Claims.
