A group of nonprofits and a physician sued the attorney general of Colorado seeking to bar the enforcement of a bill that includes individuals’ chosen names and preferred pronouns as a protected category under the state’s anti-discrimination law.
The bill violates the First Amendment by compelling Coloradans to refer to transgender-identifying individuals using their chosen name and preferred pronouns, forcing them to confirm “that a biological man is actually a woman or vice versa,” according to a complaint filed Monday in the US District Court for the District of Colorado.
