Coca-Cola Sued Over Fanta Piña Colada Soda ‘Natural’ Label

Coca-Cola Co. deceptively touts its Fanta Piña Colada soda as made with “100% Natural Flavors” when the beverage contains a synthetic flavor called DL-malic acid, a proposed class action filed Thursday in a New York federal court alleges.

A piña colada is a cocktail made with rum, cream of coconut or coconut milk, and pineapple juice, usually served either blended or shaken with ice. The piña colada taste “is valued so highly” that it’s often associated with non-alcoholic foods, ranging from Italian ices to cookies, and to soda, New Yorker Janie Hawkins says.
