CMS Contractors Beat Class Action Over Breach of Medicare Data

Federal contractors ASRC Federal Data Solutions LLC and Health Care Management Solutions LLC defeated a proposed class action alleging they failed to protect the personal health information of 254,000 Medicare beneficiaries that was disclosed in an October 2022 ransomware attack.

Plaintiff Barbara Burger didn’t show that she had suffered a concrete injury from the disclosure of her data, a requirement for standing to sue in federal court, Judge Richard D. Bennett of the US District Court for the District of Maryland said Wednesday.
