Cleveland State Student Wins Court Ban on Dorm Room Exam Scans

A Cleveland State University student won a permanent injunction barring the school from subjecting him to a room scan as a condition for taking online exams.

Plaintiff Aaron Ogletree is entitled to declaratory and injunctive relief because he showed that the policy violates his Fourth Amendment rights, Judge J. Philip Calabrese of the US District Court for the Northern District of Ohio said Tuesday.

Calabrese, however, declined to extend the injunction to other students, finding it “would be overly broad and is unnecessary to provide Mr. Ogletree the relief to which he is entitled.”
