Class Action Against HP Over Laptop Hinges Gets Trimmed by Court

HP Inc. persuaded a federal court to toss most claims from a proposed class action lawsuit alleging the electronics company sold laptops with defective hinges.

A group of thirty HP computer owners sued the company in 2022, alleging models including the “Envy” and “Pavilion” don’t open and shut properly. The complaint, filed in the US District Court for the District of Delaware, estimates the class could number in the tens of thousands. HP sought dismissal, arguing the plaintiffs didn’t sufficiently plead actionable claims.
