Online retro retailer 80sTees.com Inc. accused an Australian company of violating its intellectual property by selling “substantially similar” clothing based on the film “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.”
80sTees, in a lawsuit filed in the US District Court for the Western District of Michigan, said Jersey Nation Pty sold near copies of its copyrighted “Griswold Hockey Jersey” design.
The design is inspired by the customized Chicago Blackhawks jersey Chevy Chase’s character Clark Griswold wears in the movie. Both companies’ products feature a Christmas moose logo on the front, Griswold’s name on the back, red collars, and black wrist cuffs.
