East Lansing, Mich, violated the US Constitution when it excluded a fruit and vegetable farm from its farmer’s market over the business’s stance on same-sex weddings.
The ruling Monday by the US District Court for the Western District of Michigan is notable for applying a 2021 US Supreme Court decision that the city of Philadelphia violated the free exercise of religion rights of private foster care agency Catholic Social Services because of its refusal to certify married same-sex couples for adoption to the suit to a for-profit business.
