Christian Club Advances First Amendment Suit Against DC Schools

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes can continue to allege that Washington, D.C. Public Schools’ anti-discrimination policy violates the organization’s constitutional protections for religious freedom, a federal court said.

DCPS’s voluntary revision to rules for student organizations and clubs, after the fellowship secured a preliminary injunction, doesn’t render the suit moot, Judge Dabney L. Friedrich of the US District Court for the District of Columbia said in a Tuesday opinion partially granting a motion to dismiss.
