Chinese Embassy Security, Feds Defeat Protester’s Injury Claims

The US State Department, security guards for the Chinese embassy in Washington, D.C., and an embassy contractor won a dismissal of a Washington State woman’s claims that she was injured while protesting the imprisonment of dissidents.

Jin Yang’s damages claims arose from a sidewalk scuffle between protesters, security guards, and police outside the embassy, allegedly resulting in Yang breaking her foot and suffering other injuries. Yang subsequently brought claims against the Department of State, the embassy builder, and embassy guards.
