Chicago Production Company Must Bargain With Stagehands’ Union

Chicago live events company Jam Productions Ltd. will have to bargain with a group of its stagehands who voted to unionize six years ago.

During a particularly busy season, employees at Jam Productions’ Riviera Theater voted to certify Theatrical Stage Employees Union, Local No. 2—an affiliate of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees—as their bargaining representative.

Local No. 2 runs a hiring hall through which Jam sought to staff the theater. Jobs assigned through the hiring hall are highly sought after because they’re better paid than other non-union work, the court said.
