Chicago Hospital Defeats Black Ex-Worker’s Race Bias Pay Suit

A Black physician failed to revive her suit alleging a Chicago public hospital discriminated against her by paying her less than other non-Black physicians.

After facing large workloads and unanswered requests for additional support, Tondalaya Gamble resigned in 2020 and later filed the suit, alleging Cook County Health’s John Stroger Hospital and two of its officials discriminated against her based on her race. Gamble asserted claims under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and similar claims under an Illinois human rights law.
