Chicago Health System Patient Advances Meta Info-Sharing Lawsuit

A Chicago-area health care provider must face some claims in a proposed class action alleging it illegally shared the personal health information of visitors to its website with Meta Platforms Inc. without their consent.

Lead plaintiffs Arnold Stein and Diane Miller adequately pleaded that the Edward-Elmhurst Health hospital system intercepted their communications for the purpose of committing an illegal act, a requirement for liability under the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, Judge Steven C. Seeger of the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois said Feb. 21.
