Charter Cable Employee Must Arbitrate Would-Be Class Wage Suit

Charter Communications Inc. may require a former employee to individually arbitrate proposed class claims alleging California wage and breaks violations under pacts he signed when applying internally for new positions, a federal judge in San Diego ruled.

Devanan Maharaj, who worked as a cable technician from 2000 to mid-2018, agreed to arbitrate all employment-related disputes when he submitted his applications through Charter’s online job portal in 2019, Judge Cynthia Bashant of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California said Thursday.
