Ceratizit USA LLC has agreed to pay $54.4 million to resolve allegations that it violated the False Claims Act by knowingly failing to pay duties owed on tungsten carbide products imported from China, the US Department of Justice said Thursday.
“We will use the law to support our companies and to make cheaters pay,” US Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon Jr. for the Eastern District of Michigan said in a news release from the US Department of Justice.
Ceratizit did not admit liability as part of the settlement. Representatives for Ceratizit didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
