Cento ‘Certified San Marzano’ Tomato False Ad Lawsuit Dropped

Three consumers have voluntarily dismissed claims alleging Cento Fine Foods Inc. deceptively portrayed “Certified San Marzano” canned tomatoes as grown in the only region of Italy that can produce them, according to filings in a California federal court.

True San Marzano tomatoes are grown only in the Agro Sarnese-Nocerino in southern Italy, where they are cultivated to take advantage of the region’s rich volcanic soil and its warm, sunny climate, the suit alleged.

Derek Snarr, J. Michael Duca, and Candance Goulette alleged Cento’s product is deceptively labeled because it lacks certification from the Cosorzio di Tutela del Pomodoro San Marzano ...
